**Operation 1**. We can solve simple two step equations by rearranging the left-hand side (LHS) and right-hand side (RHS) of the equation. Keep all the variable on one side and keep all the constant values on other side. If LHS have variable, then RHS should have all the constant values. If RHS have variable, then LHS should have all the constant values.

**Solving two step equations worksheet PDF Example by using operation 1** : 5a – 5 = 10 (two step equation with whole number or integer), where “a” is a variable.

Let’s solve 5a – 5 = 10, In this equation our aim is to find the value of variable “a”.

First, we have to rearrange the equation to have all the constant values on one side.

5a = 10+5 => 5a = 15. Now, the equation becomes 5a = 15, where the constant value is on the right-hand side.

a = 15/5 = 3.

Therefore, the solution to the equation 5a – 5 = 10 is a =3.

#### 2. Solving two step equations worksheet using Inverse Operations

**Operation 2. Use Inverse Operations** – In the given equation, if you need to remove addition then you have to perform subtraction. if it’s subtraction then perform addition to fix it.

Example: Solve this “6p – 6 = 18” two step equation using inverse operation?

**Operation 1.** First, we have to rearrange the give equation. All variables should be on one side of the equation and all constant terms should be on another side of the equation.

6p = 18 + 6 = 24 => 6p = 24.

**Operation 2. **6p – 6 = 18, Here we have to isolate the term with the variable “p”.

In our question, we have to remove. “-6” It means that we need to remove subtraction so we would perform addition to solve this problem. So, we will add “6” on both side of the equation.

6p – 6 + 6 = 18 + 6.

6p = 24.

Now we can see that variable “p” is multiplied by 6. It means that we have to divide whole equation by 6.

6p ÷ 6 = 24 ÷ 6.

p = 4.

#### 3. Undo Multiplication or Division

**Operation 3. Undo Multiplication or Division** – This operation almost same as inverse operation. In the given equation, if you have to reverse multiplication or division in order to solve two-step equations then perform this operation. To fix multiplication, do the division. If you need to fix division then perform multiplication to undo it.

**Example:** 5x = 15

In above example, variable “x” is multiplied by 5. So, we have to undo multiplication by performing division.

Thats why both LHS and RHS sides should be divided by 5.

(5x)/5 = (15)/5 => x = 3.

**Example:** Y ÷ 7 = 2

In this example, variable “Y” is divided by 7. So, we have to perform multiplication operation to fix it. Multiply both sides by 7.

(Y ÷ 7) x 7 = (2) x 7 => Y = 14.

#### 4. Solving two-step equations worksheet by other special operations

**Operation 4.** Multiplication or division performed on the variable term before the addition or subtraction. In this case, you’d first solve for the variable by reversing the operations in the reverse order of operations of BEDMAS/BODMAS rule (Brackets, Exponents, Division/Multiplication, Addition/Subtraction).

**Exa****mple:** 3a ÷ 5 + 8 = 11

In above example, you can see that division of performed on the variable “a” before the addition. If we have to solve this two-step equation, then we must solve it in reverse order of operations of BODMAS Rule.

3a ÷ 5 + 8 = 11 (In this equation, first we have to undo addition by subtracting 8 from both sides (RHS and LHS).

3a ÷ 5 + 8 – 8 = 11 – 8 => 3a ÷ 5 = 3.

Now in 3a ÷ 5 = 3 equation, we have to undo division, So multiply both LHS and RHS sides by 5.

(3a ÷ 5) x 5 = 3 x 5 => 3a = 15.

To remove 3 from LHS, we have to divide both sides by 3.

3a/3 = 15/5 => a = 5.

Therefore, the solution to the equation 3a ÷ 5 + 8 = 11 is a = 5.

**Example 1:** Solve this two-step equation for the value of variable “x” 15x + 8 = 38.

15x + 8 = 38 (Here, first we have to undo addition. So, subtract by 8 both sides of the equation).

15x +8 – 8 = 38 – 8.

15x = 30 (Now variable “x” is multiplied by 15. To undo this, we have to divide whole equation by 15).

15 (x)/ 15 = 30 / 15.

x = 2.

**Example 2:** Solve for “y” (2/3) y + 4 = 10.
